Following the adoption of the 2009 Child Protection Act, which prohibits the recruitment of persons under 18 into the national army, the Democratic Republic of the Congo began to strengthen and improve military provisions to protect children, particularly in times of national emergency and armed conflict. Article 127 of the Organic Law on the organization of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo prohibits the conscription of people under the age of eighteen into the army during general mobilization.
