On 25 June, Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict participated in a 1-day inter-institutional training on Children and Armed Conflict, organized by the European External Action Service (EEAS), in cooperation with the Office of SRSG-CAAC, UNICEF, and the European Commission’s Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (DEVCO). The training took place in Brussels, at the building of the EEAS, and was the second of such trainings to be organized since 2013. The participants included EU employees from headquarters and delegations, as well as Member States. The training provides a good example of how the EU, as a regional organization, can contribute to the further development and implementation of the UN’s Children and Armed Conflict agenda.
As the only NGO speaker present, Watchlist presented on the main trends in violations against children during armed conflict, and presided over a case study involving its recent publication the 1612 Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism. A Resource Pack for NGOs.
