“I Have Nightmares that My Father is Killed”

(Norwegian Refugee Council) – When Daniel Malaul and his son returned home after a doctor’s visit in early 2013, they found Simon’s mother and brother dead on the floor. Armed groups had found their way to their neighbourhood as a new, bloody conflict was about to break out in South Sudan. Daniel grabbed his son and fled for their lives. Simon is one of many children who has witnessed the terrible atrocities of South Sudan’s armed conflict. The murder of his mother and brother has haunted the young boy, who started having night terrors. “I have seen many bad things happening. Sometimes I have nightmares that my father is killed.”
