On March 25, 2019, a group of 19 nongovernmental organizations, including Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict, sent an open letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcoming his initiative to review United Nations operations in Myanmar. In the letter, the NGOs strongly urge the Secretary-General to ensure that the review is open and transparent, and that its findings and recommendations are made public. They further urge Guterres to ensure that the review team has the necessary resources to complete its work and that it consult a wide range of stakeholders. Lastly, they call on Secretary-General Guterres to ensure that the United Nations reaffirm its commitment to the Human Rights Up Front initiative, which developed from a similar inquiry into the UN’s role during events in Sri Lanka.
