(The Guardian) – Walking barefoot, Dominic Ongwen took a westerly course across the tropical savanna in the Central African Republic where it meets the border of Sudan. The Ugandan rebel leader had been on the run for days from Joseph Kony, the notoriously elusive chief of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). After 30 years as a rebel, from child soldier to commander, Ongwen had fallen out of favour with Kony and had three options: face likely execution, escape, or die trying.
