(WHO) – In response to a poliomyelitis (polio) outbreak in the eastern part of Syria in spring 2017, WHO/Europe procured vaccines from its field office in Gaziantep, Turkey, for a vaccination campaign that reached nearly 200 000 children in north-western Syria. These cross-border activities are part of the UN’s “Whole of Syria” approach to provide humanitarian assistance, including health services, to populations across the entire country.
