(Romeo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative) – On April 28th 2014, during the Open Debate on Security Sector Reform, the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to adopt resolution 2151. This resolution represents a growing trend to address the issue of child protection from a preventative angle. “S/Res/2151 (2014) represents another critical step towards meaningful security sector reform by elevating children on the security agenda,” stated Dr. Shelly Whitman, Executive Director of the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative, based at Dalhousie University.
