(ECHO)  – Although more children than ever before have access to education, currently more than 75 million children (aged 3-18) are out of school in 35 crises-affected countries. Among refugees and internally displaced children, only 1 in 2 attends school and only 1 in 4 attend lower secondary level. Emergencies and crises disproportionately affect girls’ access to education. Today, 4 of the 5 countries with the largest gender gaps in education are conflict-affected countries (CAR, Chad, Yemen and South Sudan). For secondary school the gender gap is even greater.
