(Geneva Call) – On 21 July 2013, the Karen National Union and its armed wing the Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA), formally signed Geneva Call’s Deed of Commitment prohibiting sexual violence and gender discrimination, and its Deed of Commitment protecting children in armed conflict. For Geneva Call, this signing comes at an important time within the peace process, and maintains the momentum to promote the protection of civilians. Geneva Call hopes that other groups in the country will be inspired to follow suit, and that such initiatives will serve to further build confidence between all parties working towards peace.
