In conflict-affected countries, children are under attack on all sides. Not only are they directly threatened by recruitment and use, killing and maiming, abduction, and rape and other forms of sexual violence by parties to conflict, but children are also impacted by the side effects of fighting, including widespread displacement and lack of access to food, water, medical care, and education. In conflicts around the world, perpetrators of child rights violations are not effectively held to account and the protections afforded to children are lacking.
