Description

The methodological guidelines for healthcare professionals on responding to suspected cases of physical or psychological abuse against children aim to ensure comprehensive protection and support for children who may have become victims of abuse. This document provides healthcare professionals with a clear action plan for the timely identification of abuse signs, specific methods for documenting physical injuries, and principles for providing assistance tailored to the child’s individual needs and condition, especially for those who have experienced war-related trauma.

A particular emphasis is placed on supporting the mental health of affected children, including measures for suicide prevention and rehabilitation, which are crucial for their recovery. According to the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated December 13, 2023, healthcare professionals are instructed to follow the established standards of psychosocial support, including for children who have suffered abuse or traumatic experiences due to military actions. These measures include informing the child about their rights, available social services, and providing comprehensive rehabilitative care.

An essential aspect of implementing these guidelines is the organization of dedicated spaces for medical examinations, ensuring confidentiality, and involving psychologists, child psychiatrists, and social services to provide additional support when needed. This approach enables timely psychological assistance and facilitates rehabilitation, aiding in the process of overcoming traumatic experiences.
