Order №135 issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is aimed at establishing safety classrooms in Ukrainian schools, providing students with essential training to respond to emergencies—a crucial measure during times of martial law. These safety classrooms create a structured learning environment where students gain knowledge and practical skills in fire and mine safety, basics of civil protection, and action algorithms during crisis situations. The primary objective is to develop health-preserving competencies and a culture of safe behavior among students, which is vital amidst the ongoing threats to life and health.
This initiative directly addresses the immediate challenges of today’s reality: students learn to identify risks and act appropriately to protect their lives and health. An interactive approach is integrated into the safety classrooms, making the learning process more practical and effective. The classrooms are equipped with technical resources and materials that allow for simulation of various scenarios, from fire incidents to handling explosive hazards.
The layout of safety classrooms is divided into dedicated zones for a deeper immersion into safety-related topics. For instance, the fire safety zone includes training on using fire extinguishers and practicing fire response protocols. The mine safety zone teaches students how to behave when encountering explosive or suspicious objects. Additionally, there is a space designated for first aid training, where students learn to manage injuries, stop bleeding, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These essential skills empower students to feel more confident when faced with extreme situations.
Safety classrooms also feature a psychological decompression zone to support children in managing stress. Furthermore, a variety of multimedia materials tailored to the students’ age groups is used in lessons. Younger students learn through play-based activities, which include themed games, puzzles, coloring pages, and safety-related cartoons. For middle and high school students, lessons are structured as lectures, tests, and role-playing scenarios, allowing for a deeper understanding and reinforcement of the acquired knowledge.
