This law specifies rules of procedure for the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), the transitional mechanism established in Colombia in 2016 to investigate, prosecute, and punish the most serious violations committed during the country’s armed conflict. Provisions with particular relevance to children include the following:
- Article 1 specifies that in all of the JEP’s approaches, the JEP will consider factors that include whether a person is a child or adolescent.
- Article 2 addresses specific protections to be available for victims who are under the age of 18 years old
- Article 21 addresses the protection of information, specifying that the JEP will protect names and sensitive data that involve children and/or sexual violence.
