On 8 September 2014, the Security Council held an Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict under the U.S. Presidency. This was the second of two thematic debates on Children and Armed Conflict in 2014. The September Open Debate takes place following the 1st July publication of the UN Secretary-General’s 13th Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict.
The first open debate took place on 8 March 2014, and resulted in the unanimous adoption of Security Council Resolution 2143, which provided concrete measures to Member States on how to prevent the military use of schools. No outcome document was adopted by the Security Council during the September Open Debate.
