Geneva Call joined Watchlist in April as an Associate Member. Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect by armed non-State actors (ANSAs) for the international norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence, particularly those related to the protection of civilians. Currently, Geneva Call focuses on banning the use of anti-personnel mines, the prohibition of sexual violence, and the protection of children from the effects of armed conflict.
Geneva Call’s unique approach centered on the issue-specific ‘Deeds of Commitment’ in negotiations with the ANSAs has been recognized as a successful model by the UN Secretary-General in his reports on the protection of civilians in armed conflict. To date, Geneva Call has engaged in dialogue with about 90 ANSAs, and is considered to be among leaders in the field of humanitarian engagement with ANSAs worldwide.
