Constitutional Declaration

The Constitutional Declaration, intended to replace the 2005 constitution, was signed in 2019. Particularly relevant to children are the below provisions:

• Article 8(8): “During the transitional period, state agencies shall be committed to performing the following duties: … Strengthen the role of young people of both sexes and expand their opportunities in all social, political and economic fields.”
• Article 49(5): “The state provides free healthcare for motherhood, childhood and pregnant women.”
• Article 50: “The state protects the rights of the child as provided in international and regional agreements ratified by Sudan.”
