Somalia
Legislation
2007
The Juvenile Justice Law was adopted in Somalia in 2007. The law complements the existing Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. It takes precedence over other laws in matters related to juvenile justice, as stated in Article 3. The law raises the age of criminal responsibility from 14 to 15. The law prohibits certain severe punishments for juveniles, including death penalties, life imprisonment, physical punishment, and imprisonment exceeding 15 years.
