Under Israeli penal law, the abduction of any person is prohibited and punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment. This prohibition encompasses, among other things, the unlawful removal of children under the age of 16 from the custody of their parents or legal guardians without their consent. Although this is a general prohibition, it is equally applicable during times of armed conflict, ensuring that the protection of children from abduction remains in effect, regardless of the situation in the country.
