Law No. 06/019 of 20 July 2006, Modifying and Completing the Decree of 6 August 1959 Relating to the Congolese Penal Procedure Code

The 2006 revision of the Congolese Penal Code was specifically designed to align the country’s laws on sexual violence with international standards. This amendment raised the legal age of consent from 14 to 18, expanded the definition of rape, and introduced penalties for additional forms of sexual assault. These changes were designed to better protect victims of gender-based violence and ensure harsher penalties for offenders.
