UN Security Council Resolution 1882 (2009) expanded the scope of the “list of shame” to include parties responsible for two additional grave violations: killing and maiming as well as rape and other sexual violence committed against children. Therefore, as of this day, parties to an armed conflict can be specifically listed for three violations: recruitment and use of child solders, killing and maiming of children and rape and sexual violence against children.
While an enhanced monitoring mechanism for some violations allows for a concrete and targeted response, all six violations are equally grave and Watchlist advocates for a strong monitoring and response mechanism for all of them.
